Artificial Intelligence in Consumer Marketing
The AI & Marketing research group at Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 studies how machine learning and generative AI are changing the way brands understand, reach and persuade consumers.
Our work sits at the intersection of behavioral marketing, data science and ethics, and asks a simple question: when a recommendation, an advertisement or a customer-service reply is written by an algorithm, does it still feel human? Over the past three years, the lab has run studies on algorithmic trust, personalization fatigue, and the disclosure of AI-generated content in advertising, working with partner brands across retail, banking and hospitality. Our flagship project, the Consumer Trust Index, tracks how these attitudes shift as AI tools become part of everyday shopping.
What We Study
Our current research program is organized around three strands. The first examines algorithmic transparency — whether telling a shopper that a product was recommended by AI changes how much they trust it. The second looks at generative content in advertising, comparing consumer reactions to copy, images and video produced by a person, by AI, or by a mix of both. The third strand studies voice and chat assistants in customer service, measuring satisfaction, patience, and willingness to complete a purchase after an AI-led conversation. Findings from each strand feed directly into the lab's teaching, including the Master's seminar in Digital Marketing Strategy.
Take Part in This Study
This page is one of the stimuli used in a current lab study on how people read and respond to AI-related marketing content online. If you were sent here from a survey, take a moment to read the material above as you normally would — there's no right or wrong way to do it. When you're ready, use the button below to return to the survey and continue. If you have questions about the study, the consent form you completed includes the contact details of the responsible researcher, or you can reach the lab directly below.
